Deep in the park of Château de Canisy, a very special bee is hard at work: the black bee, Apis mellifera mellifera, a quiet guardian of the Normandy countryside for centuries. Hardier and more cold-resistant than imported breeds, this local bee has kept its bloodline intact, escaping the crossbreeding that has reshaped so many apiaries across France.
This summer, the château invites you to uncover the secrets of this heritage bee with a discovery activity designed for all ages. On the program: a guided tour of the apiary, a safe, up-close look at life inside a colony, and a tasting of honey harvested right on the estate.
A buzzing little escape, somewhere between learning and wonder, that shows why protecting the black bee also means protecting a living piece of our heritage.
